FAQ

How are your workshops structured?
Expect your course to be highly participative and to integrate academic & research findings to update your knowledge There is plenty of interaction and opportunity for discussion plus group and individual exercises and case studies. On Day 2 we will practice “client” played by a professional actor. The activities and methods will vary to keep you interested and stimulated. We’ll maintain a good pace so boredom won’t set in. We invite questions, comments, and discussion at any time if you wish (and only if you wish). Don't worry; we won't put you on the spot! Breaks will be scheduled frequently so you can stretch, walk, talk, or make phone calls.
Who teaches the courses?
Dr. Heather Sequeira PhD has vast clinical & research experience in trauma and associated mental health issues giving regular input to British Psychological Society CPD and clinical doctoral training programmes. Heather came into psychology as Trauma Researcher specialising in PTSD and has published in leading journals. Her co-authors include presidents of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the British Medical Association. The combined knowledge of clinical practice, extensive experience and excellent training skills make her an excellent and stimulating trainer to work with.
How does the clinical demo & skills practice work with the actor as “client"?
PTSD Master Class is highly practical, with clinical demonstration and skills practice using live actor as our “client” and video footage to model skills. We offer a stop & pause format so that delegates can stop, discuss, and pull open the clinical decision-making steps at each stage of the therapy process. You are invited to participate if you wish (and only if you wish). Don't worry; we won't put you on the spot! You get to see other peoples therapy style and a real unique opportunity to see how other people interact. The “actor as client” process brings life-like and safer skills practice into the workshop - an opportunity make mistakes with out consequences within a safe environment. This process offers unique hands-on training for professionals with sound theory to practice transfer.

What makes us different from other training?
What we do is take a practical ‘real world’ approach with ample opportunity to see ‘PTSD therapy in action'. We use live therapy demos & skills practice to map out complexity. We try not to shy away from real work difficulties, therapy pitfalls & tough decisions. Feedback from previous delegates said that they really valued not only Heather's authentic, expert approach & willingness to demonstrate clinical skills but also discussion of challenges, mistakes & complexity. CBT with a Human Centred base. You get a refreshing and incredibly effective way to embed new & existing skills. The most practical and relevant workshop teaching.
Will there be an opportunity to speak directly with the facilitator when I’m at the workshop?
Yes. Discussions are actively encouraged within the training, although please ensure that any client relevant material is made anonymous so that no individuals can be identified. Where possible questions are best asked in the group training so that everyone can benefit from the discussion. You can be pretty sure that if you have a question then others will also find the answers useful. Heather can’t answer individual client supervision questions but will be happy to discuss issues that relate to PTSD, trauma and other mental health issues if she can.
Can you accommodate individuals who identify as having a disability?
We will do whatever we can to assist our course participants who identify as having a disability. If possible, try to let us know 2 weeks in advance of the workshop so we can do what we can to assist.
