Really good day attending Heather's PTSD Essentials - nicely interactive and good mix of teaching, sharing of ideas / experiences, role play, psych-ed and practical application. Good facilities, use of time and great notes to take away. Definitely following up with the masterclass. Highly recommend to anyone working with trauma.
I found this workshop very useful as I work with suvivors of abuse and felt I need more tools. Heather was a great facilitator which made it easy to follow and understand. I would deffently do more workshops in the future, I feel I gained valuable skills. Thank you
Excellent trainer. Clear knowledgeable and experiential. Theory and practical skills applied neatly to many diverse clinical examples that really helped illustrate processes. On 2nd day Heather an actor role playing a client really brought the therapy into the room. It felt real and enabled us to discuss the therapy process as it was unfolding. Well recommended. CBT basis but well integrated with ACT/ client centred/ attachment therapeutic perspectives.
As a result of this training day I felt refreshed in, and, a lot more confident about my own knowledge of crucial elements of PTSD and the effects of trauma (even when they do not fit within the specified remit of PTSD) as well as my ability to transfer this knowledge to clients in a helpful and constructive way within the course of therapy.
It was interesting to consider how useful, or not, diagnoses and categorizations are, for clients and professionals, as we use them currently as specified in certain publications.
I also found it surprising, refreshing, optimistic and positive that Heather ALWAYS framed and discussed issues in terms of the client's experience of their difficulties, regardless of certain conceptions by staff which could impact on services offered to clients e.g. certain diagnoses create particular ideas about clients even before meeting them.
Heather's knowledge base is clearly substantial, and she is very good at sharing this knowledge, and I look forward to the next workshop I attend that she facilitates.
The course was very informative and helpful for developing further skills and knowledge of PTSD and trauma. The biological explanations are helpful.
I found this to be an excellent day's training. I consolidated and deepened my understanding and came away with transferable skills to use in my practice. The day ran smoothly, at a good pace and with plenty of interaction. Having the actor role play the client made a tremendous difference as we were able to pause the action and discuss what we had learnt. Also, actually seeing Heather work with the 'client' brought alive how we could use the interventions. Really worthwhile training. Looking forward to signing up for some more.
I have attended the other workshops and this was no exception. Exceptionally through, highly interactive, totally clinically relevant and with lots of new information. I really benefit from how Heather presents often complex neurobiological ideas in such a simple, easy to understand way. Plus I love the use of metaphors in therapy. I left with renewed confidence, sense of competence and am sure this will pass on clients. The use of an actor presenting as our client is was really helpful and cemented the theory and information in a really practical useful way.
I recently attended a PTSD masterclass run by Heather and was very impressed indeed. The material was highly relevant and directed at the applied context and there was a good meld of formal teaching and discussion throughout. The handouts were relevant and the pacing just right. The highlight for me was the fantastic actor who brought to life the material through an interactive clinical session which really helped with skill development. This was so helpful in transcending the day from a didactic session to a living experience, which was really impactful. I'd highly recommend this if either you're new or uncertain about trauma work, or just needing a refresher. Excellent.
Heather's two day course delivered exactly what I was looking for - two days of information packed training with plenty of room for involvement from the participants. Personally, I found the role play section extremely useful as, not only did I get to see the model in action, it gave me a chance to experience a taste of how I might find working with this client group in this way.
Really worth attending this masterclass, I would highly recommend it for professionals who work or have an interest in trauma, Heather’s teaching is interactive and very engaging. The in vivo work with an actor is challenging however provides excellent practical skills. All the knowledge and skills provided are really useful and can be used immediately
Really useful training. Interactive experience, driven by energetic facilitator and an experienced professional.
Theoretically, practically, philosophically, enriching & illuminating. I knew I wanted to do more CBT training & I knew I wanted to know more about trauma because it is always present somewhere & in some guise or another when working with addictions, as I do, and yet I didn't entirely know quite why or how the training may or may not help me; I was somewhat fuzzy in my thinking about this. This training keenly sharpened those blunted edges. There was a compelling clarity to the course that made learning feel effortless. I am still finding things coming to the fore now, almost a week later. Dr. Sequeira delivered the training in a straight forward superbly paced way throughout, something only someone highly skilled & practiced in their field can accomplish with such aplomb. My attention, interest and fascination was held long after the last words had been spoken and the training had finished. I can't thank Dr. Sequeira enough for the quality of the content or the exceptional way in which it was presented to us. The actor playing the role of a severely traumatised client was a triumph. We all benefited hugely from this part of the training. It far exceeded any role play I have ever witnessed in its depth of learning that it afforded us. It's success was down to the brilliance of the actor herself & Dr. Sequeira's experience & skill that allowed the exercise to come alive and resonate with a gravitas in the moment that a role-play almost has no right to have.
An excellent and thought provoking course loaded with wisdom & practice enriching insights that you shouldn't allow yourself to miss. I can't recommend it highly enough & I will be eagerly returning for the upcoming Master class with keen anticipation; I know it won't disappoint.
I found this workshop very engaging, I learnt so much that I could then apply to this to my own practice. The pace was very good and examples given really helped, the content was great too. I thoroughly recommend the workshop and I am certainly booking on the two day master class. If anyone is thinking of doing this course then don't hesitate its worth attending. Thank you so much for a great day.
I went on this course in order to learn more about and to feel more confident in working therapeutically with people who have experienced traumas in their life. I found this workshop incredibly engaging (not boring at all!) and extremely useful. The theory was presented in such a way that if you knew it already it was helpful in thinking about how to present it to your clients and I learned some other helpful techniques to use in therapy that are client friendly and super practical. I've already used some of the ideas and they've been received well by my client and I definitely feel more confident in working with trauma. The actress who joined us was amazing and it really felt like having a client in the room. I've never seen that in a workshop before and it was definitely helpful in practicing skills and observing the facilitator in action as well. Overall I would definitely recommend this workshop. Thank you!
I was very impressed by the breath of information provided in the workshop. I also feel better equipped to work with trauma and more confident in using the techniques provided. I am looking forward to their other workshops.
Really useful workshop. This has provided me with a very practical insight into the application of narrative re-living techniques and my confidence has increased as a result of being able to observe these being used with an actor. The case formulation was also extremely insightful and served to further my understanding of how PTSD is maintained. Excellent explanation of how the brain responds to trauma, this has given me more clarity with regards to memory processing and I feel more able to provide my clients with the psycho-education needed to normalize their experiences. Thank you Heather, I have been recommending your workshops to my colleagues since participating in this!
I have been qualified for over 10 years and am struck by how our knowledge of PTSD and therefore therapy strategies have developed. I found this course to be a thorough and informative workshop with plenty of innovative practical aspects to cement skills and knowledge. Really recommended for people at all stages of their professional journey
Heather has a way of making complex information really accessible; she boils down research into clear and concise actionable therapy steps that have made a big difference to my own therapy practice. I also respect the interpersonally informed basis of her CBT practice, holding the centrality of the client therapy relationship. I especially valued the interactive elements and the use of the actor on the second day who came in as our therapy client.
Very clear, recent research.
The 'live' aspects really useful
Great opportunity to see therapy demonstrations & other experienced clinicians doing therapy
Heathers extensive experience with PTSD is evident from the start and as an experienced practitioner I still walked away with developments to my practice that I could apply. It's a really hands-on workshop to teach using an individualised case-formulation approach that respects the therapeutic relationship. The most useful bit for me personally was seeing Heather demonstrate challenging therapy situations with the Actor playing our client. It was also useful to see other delegates practicing skills with the actor - such a unique opportunity to see other therapists at work.
The experiential aspects with the live actor playing a client (a very realistically complicated client) helped totally. There were a lot of psychologists on the course but as a human centred therapist, I felt welcomed and my approach was validated. I really recommend the course from an experiential and theoretical point of view.
